Seniors to party hardy for Griswell birthday

JONESBORO — Happy birthday to you.

Happy birthday to you.

Happy birthday, Griswell senior center.

May the seniors dance for you.

Southern Crescent senior citizens will party like its 2006 next week as the J. Charley Griswell Senior Center turns 7.

The center’s annual “Display of Quilts,” featuring items made by participants in Griswell’s quilting class, will be on display throughout the week and the public is invited to come by and see it. However, senior services officials have a series of special activities planned for members to help commemorate the birthday.

On Monday, staff will present “Look How Griswell Has Grown.” There will be an Atlanta Theater-To-Go performance Tuesday. The Griswell Advisory Board will host an ice cream social Wednesday. Each of those events will begin at 2 p.m. There will also be a Chattanooga Riverboat Cruise trip Thursday beginning at 8 a.m.

Capping off the week will be an “Oldies But Goodies” Dance Friday at 5 p.m. Admission will be $5 and attendees will get to “boogie oogie oogie till they just can’t boogie no more” to hits from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

The center is in Clayton County International Park, 2300 Ga. 138, in Jonesboro.
