Three arrested after SWAT stand-off

RIVERDALE — Clayton County police arrested three men after a SWAT standoff started with shots fired but ended peacefully Friday.

Officer Eddie Soto said members of the SWAT team and drug unit served a no-knock search warrant at 7736 Roundtree Crossing. SWAT officers entered the house and were shot at as they ascended the stairs, said Soto.

“Multiple shots were fired at the entry team,” he said. “The SWAT team backed away from the home and set up a perimeter.”

Several homes in the immediate area were evacuated as a precaution due to the nature of the incident, said Soto. Negotiations began with the barricaded individuals and this resulted in the peaceful surrender of two men, he said.

Believing there were suspects still in the home, negotiations continued but no one responded, Soto said.

“Several attempts were made to end the incident peacefully, but the individuals did not comply,” he said. “The SWAT units then used less lethal means of having the individuals come out of the home with the use of tear gas.”

The Clayton County Bomb Unit also responded with their robot, said Soto. The robot entered the home and found a third man, who surrendered without incident, he said.

There were no injuries reported.

Police arrested Daquan Terry, 22, of Atlanta and charged him with 10 counts of aggravated assault, five counts of possession of firearm during a crime, two counts of theft by receiving stolen firearms, one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and one count of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

Police also arrested Clyde Walker Jr., 20, of Riverdale and charged him with two counts of theft by receiving stolen firearms, one count of obstruction, one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and one count of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

Aldren Ellis, 25, of Riverdale was also arrested, said Soto. Police charged him with two counts of theft by receiving stolen firearms, one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and one count of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

They are being held in the Clayton County Jail awaiting their first appearances in Clayton County Magistrate Court.
