Jonesboro OKs parking spaces for phone company

JONESBORO — Telephone service provider AT&T will get to lease 40 parking spaces from the city of Jonesboro.

The city council unanimously approved a leasing agreement where the phone company will pay $40 per space each month to use the spaces in a city-owned parking lot on West Mill Street. The agreement is expected to generate $1,600 in monthly revenues for Jonesboro.

Mayor Joy Day said the spaces will be in the northeast corner of the lot. AT&T officials would have to give the city 60 days notice if they intend to increase or decrease the number of spaces it wants to lease. The city, in turn, would have to give the company 60 days notice if the council plans to terminate the agreement.

It will be AT&T’s responsibility to post signage telling employees and customers where they can park in the lot.
