Jury continues to deliberate fate of Clayton County sheriff

JONESBORO —A Clayton County jury continues to deliberate the fate of Sheriff Victor Hill Thursday morning.

The case against Hill, 27 felonies including mostly theft by taking charges, went to the jury Wednesday about 3:30 p.m. They came back to the courtroom about an hour later with a question. Judge Albert Collier said the jury wanted a copy of Hill’s job description, which was not included in the evidence.

The foreman told Collier jurors specifically wanted to know if the description included vacation days or time off for the sheriff. Collier said he couldn’t provide them with that information and they’d have to rely on the evidence and the law as he provided it to them.

Jurors returned to deliberate but went home shortly after 5 p.m. to return Thursday at 9 a.m.

Charges against Hill include allegations he took out of town trips with two women in county vehicles, using county fuel and credit cards.

I will make a public apology if I am wrong about this jury.
