JONESBORO — Clayton County will be able to essentially get a free doctor’s checkup this weekend.
Congressman David Scott (D-Ga.) will host his ninth annual 13th Congressional District Health Fair Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Mundy’s Mill High School, 9652 Fayetteville Road in Jonesboro.
Attendees will be able to undergo free screenings for breast cancer, prostate cancer, sickle cell, HIV and AIDS, diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, cholesterol levels, stroke, vision, dental and mental health screenings at the fair. Flu shots are also expected to be administered.
The event is sponsored by a long list of health care and insurance groups, as well as government agencies, businesses and law firms, including AFLAC, Aalegna Health, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Clayton County Board of Health, Georgia Power, Grady Health System, Emory University School of Public Health, Kaiser Permanente, Southern Regional Medical Center and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Other events this Saturday:
• A Summer Community Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jonesboro library branch 124 Smith St. The event will include food, a shopping bazaar and music, including featured performers The HERO Band at 2 p.m. Anyone interested in renting a table at the bazaar to sell jewelry and “rummage sale items” can call Sherry Turner at the library on Friday at 770-478-7120. Tables can be rented for $15, with the proceeds going to Friends of the Clayton County Library.
• Storytime with Ms. Julie will be held at Barnes and Noble, 1939 Mount Zion Road in Morrow at 11 a.m. Participants will sing songs and read a story together.
• Nook Q&A will be held at Barnes and Noble in Morrow at 4 p.m. Nook enthusiasts and newbies will learn how to better use the mobile reading device at this free event.
