JONESBORO —Clayton County has a new way to “reach out and touch someone.”
The county has launched a “Text to Join” campaign, where residents can text their email addresses to county officials and join a new electronic mailing list. Clayton County Board of Commissioners Chairman Jeff Turner said the service is a new effort to get more information about the county out to the public.
“It is our mission to create effective communication techniques that keep our citizens informed, while providing a safe and enjoyable community living experience,” said Turner in an introductory email to the service. “Our Clayton County communications team has developed a new vehicle for providing current and upcoming information to our businesses and residents.”
Participants will receive emails from the county about emergency messages, upcoming community events, government updates and a monthly newsletter, said reasearch and marketing analyst Glenneta Griffin. She said residents will also receive emailed videos from the county’s television station, CCTV-23, through the service.
The emails also highlight various departments and provide a photo of the week.
The number to text officials at is 22828. Officials ask residents to text the word “CLAYTON” to get the sign-up process started. They will then receive a text reply asking for an email address to which the county should send its messages.
