JONESBORO — A group dedicated to chronicling Clayton County’s history celebrated its own past while charting its future last weekend.
Historical Jonesboro/Clayton County Inc. gave founding member Amanda Roberts a special service award for working with the group for 45 years. First Vice-President Helen Adkins said Kay Dreyer, a former president of the organization, presented the award to Roberts.
“Amanda is the only founding member who is still an active member and has been instrumental in saving and restoring many properties,” said Adkins.
Roberts is planning a “Big Mama’s Soup Kitchen” event to be held Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at Stately Oaks, 100 Carriage Lane in Jonesboro.
The organization also picked its officers for the next two years Sunday. Barbara Emert will remain the group’s president and the other officers include Adkins, 2nd Vice-President Debbie Lundell, secretary Ann Sligh, treasurer Mona Moses, corresponding secretary Mary Bruce and parliamentarian Betty Mundy.
