Defendant set to testify in murder trial

JONESBORO — A woman charged with stabbing to death her mother in an argument over money is set to take the stand Wednesday morning to testify in her defense.

Takeyia Guthridge is charged with murder and other felonies in the June 11, 2012, death of Deloise Adu. Witnesses said the women argued over money and Guthridge’s eviction from the family home.

The state rested its case about 10 a.m. and Judge Matthew Simmons denied a defense request for a directed verdict on an aggravated assault charge involving Guthridge’s stepbrother, Frank Adu.
