HAMPTON — Break out your stadium chairs and get ready for a full weekend of softball action.

The Clayton County softball tournament begins today and will conclude Monday evening at the Lovejoy Softball Complex at Gerald A. Matthews Park.

Games begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, with the last scheduled game time set at 4:30 p.m. The semifinals and championship game will take place Monday at 5:30 and 6:45 p.m., respectively. All nine Clayton County schools will be represented in the annual tournament.

Last year, Jonesboro defeated Lovejoy 7-3 in the final game to claim the county title. This season, with both teams having graduated some notable standouts, it could be a wide open affair.

The tournament, which will consist of two round robin games and a single elimination tournament, will give most county schools their first extensive action during a season where several early season games have been rained out. According to gasports.com, Forest Park is the only county school to play more than one game.
