LOVEJOY — Officials dedicated a monument this month to honor the sacrifice of past, present and future service members.

The City of Lovejoy purchased the $6,500 granite monument in recognition of all members of the U.S. armed forces.

The monument sits in a small raised plot on the corner of Mayor’s Park and the Lovejoy Community Center at 11622 Hastings Bridge Road.

Several local dignitaries attended the Aug. 10 ceremony, including members of the city council, which commissioned the monument. Lovejoy High School’s Air Force JROTC Color Guard also took part in the event.
