ELLENWOOD — Georgia job seekers will descend upon Clayton County next month to look for employment.
State Rep. Valencia Stovall (D-Ellenwood), the Georgia Department of Labor and the Clayton County Career Resource Center are collaborating to put together a jobs fair Sept. 19, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Paradise Gymnasium and Cultural Center, 4295 Hendrix Drive, in Forest Park.
“Originally, I was just going to do this for the people in my district, but I’m opening it up to everyone, regardless of where they live now that the Department of Labor is partnering with me on it,” Stovall said.
Stovall said Clayton County has an 11 percent unemployment rate, which is why she decided to hold the jobs fair. Six companies have already signed up to be at the event, but Stovall expects that number will increase once the Department of Labor begins contacting businesses in its database next week.
There is no cost to attend the fair, but attendees must RSVP. They are also asked to dress professionally and bring copies of their resume.
Job seekers can RSVP for the fair by logging onto Stovall’s website, www.gostovall.com. Residents and businesses can also sign up online to participate as employers seeking employees, sponsors or volunteers.
Paradise Community Development Corporation and Sisters In Action Inc. have already signed on as hosting sponsors.
