FOREST PARK — Former Morrow City Manager Jeff Eady has officially taken the title of Forest Park Public Works director.

Eady was sworn in after taking the oath during Tuesday night’s regular city council meeting. As residents applauded, Eady said he appreciates the support and looks forward to working in Forest Park.

Eady was appointed in October to replace longtime director Mike Gippert, who retired in May. The appointment was recommended by City Manager Frank Brandon.

Brandon said 30 people applied for the spot and he narrowed the field to three he interviewed. He said one candidate was from Rome, one was an in-house employee and the third was Eady.

“He is a man of impeccable character and I think he’ll do a great job,” said Brandon in October. “He was easily the best candidate of the 30 we looked at.”

Brandon said Eady will do a great job.

“He’s always been a public works guy,” said Brandon. “He likes getting his hands dirty. He’ll be good for the city and will help along with beautification.”

Ward 1 Councilman Tommy Smith shared his own experience with Eady.

“I worked with Jeff when I had a business in Morrow and he was outstanding,” he said. “He took care of whatever I needed taken care of.”

Keep Forest Park Beautiful Director Edie Yongue said she is meeting with Eady Monday to coordinate projects with public works employees.

“I’ve known Jeff for more than 20 years and am excited about him coming to Forest Park,” she said. “I know he’s going to be great to work with.”

Councilwoman Latresa Akins said she wasn’t comfortable with hiring outside the city and voted against the recommendation. However, the appointment was approved, 3-1.
