JONESBORO — More than 100 movers and shakers from across Clayton County gathered at the Arts Clayton Gallery in Jonesboro Thursday for an evening of art and socializing at the group’s Friends and Family Christmas Party.
There was no push for additional support. No highlighting of specific artists or handing out awards for creativity. It was just a gathering of the organization’s supporters to celebrate its work.
“I think they bring in a lot of people from different venues, or different backgrounds,” longtime supporter Alan Vigil said. “Everybody talks about sports and these kids playing sports, but it’s different and gives opportunities to a lot of different people. They reach out to kids.”
The event brought a cross section of the county, including government and school system leaders, lawyers, economic developers, artists, tourism officials and representatives of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
“It’s more than the building,” said Clayton County Economic Development Director Grant Wainscott. “The building is gorgeous and the artwork is incredible, but I think it’s what it represents more than anything that’s the most important part. It’s a community that embraces art and culture. This is part of the fabric of Clayton County.”
