Ministers honor Forest Park public safety officers with holiday baskets

FOREST PARK — Donations are being sought to compile holiday baskets to honor public safety officers in Forest Park.

Dr. Leon Beeler, president of Forest Park Ministers Association, said the organization has presented the holiday baskets to nearly 200 fire and police personnel every year for the past five years.

“The association reaches out to the Forest Park police and fire departments in appreciation for the sacrifices and services that they render to the community on a daily basis,” Beeler said.

Beeler said the association is seeking contributions to pay for the gift baskets, fruit, candy and gift certificates. Donations should be made payable to Forest Park Ministers Association and mailed to Grant Community Center, 1000 Main St., Forest Park, GA 30297.

“If you would like to volunteer your time, we will be assembling these baskets Thursday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Living Word Church of God in Christ,” he said.

The church is at 4640 Beaver Road in Forest Park.

Candy canes for the baskets can also be brought to Grant Community Center the day before, Dec. 11. The association’s December meeting will double that day as its holiday party.

The meeting starts at 9 a.m. with an invocation and welcome by Pastor William Ferrell. Beeler will follow with an inspirational message and introduction of Henry Yongue.

Yongue, a member of Grace Summit Church in Stockbridge, will be discussing his recent missionary trip to Alaska at 9:20 a.m. A question-and-answer period will follow at 10:10 a.m.

Beeler said members will be told about upcoming events with the meeting wrapping up at 10:30 a.m.

Attendees should bring a “favored” Christmas dish and an unwrapped toy for Calvary Refuge Homeless Shelter in addition to candy canes for the public safety officers Christmas baskets.

Door prizes will also be awarded.
