When we seek to get right with our fellow man we apologize for our offense and seek to do or say something pleasing for him or her.
Maybe a compliment for his work or for her unselfish action. We have the same tendency when we seek to get right with God. We think: “What can I do to please God so I can gain His favor? However, Christianity doesn’t work in this way.
It’s not what we do but what God has already done for us.
Because of the love of God for us He has already provided everything we need to get right with Him through Jesus Christ. Romans 3: 22-24 declares this as follows: “Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: (between the Jew and the Gentile). For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”
Paul presented the truth that we are justified by our faith and our belief in God. The word “justified” means that God has declared us righteous, and because of this we have peace with God. Peace with God means that we have been reconciled (made right with God) and given eternal life in Christ.
I have heard all my life that we must accept Jesus Christ as our savior to be saved from the fires of hell to the eternal blessings of Heaven. If a person wants to be saved, to be reconciled to God and to have eternal life he must believe in Jesus Christ and put his faith and trust in Him.
When we do accept Christ as savior we must also commit our lives to Him, to live by His teachings in the Holy Bible. Many say we are saved by faith alone and nothing else is necessary and I believe this also but when we commit our lives to Jesus we are exercising total, complete trust in Him for who He is, why He came and what He accomplished.
Jesus must be the object of our faith, and we must live our lives according to His teachings. A popular saying asks Christians a crucial question: “If you were arrested and accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence in your life to prove it?”
Many people think that one has to be good in order to go to heaven. How good would one have to be? Perfect in every way.
Our God knew that humans could never be perfect, that all of us are sinners and unable to save ourselves. Jesus said, in Matthew 5:48, “Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect.”
We only need to look at John 3:16 to find how much God loves all mankind. “For God so loved the world (meaning all mankind) that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
God made this unspeakable sacrifice of giving His only Son, knowing that He would be treated badly, beaten and killed in order to complete and power His plan of salvation for all mankind — you and me. Now His blood covers our sin as we accept Jesus as our savior and Lord.
We are declared to be righteous by God because Jesus died for our sins and His blood covers us. When we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ our great God looks at us and sees the blood of Jesus blotting out our sin and making us righteous in His sight.
What a mighty and awesome God we serve! Thank you Jesus for saving all who trust in you! Thank you for saving me.
