Oliver Elementary wins another Stock Market Game state title

RIVERDALE — The E.W. Oliver Elementary School Stock Market Team has won another state title for Clayton County.

The Fall 2013 Georgia Stock Market Game ended Friday with Oliver defeating teams from Westminster School in Atlanta and South Central Middle School in Bartow County to claim the top spot in Georgia.

The game included more than 3,600 teams from public and private schools and teacher teams statewide. The Oliver team, led by third-graders Kaimen Jones and Caleb Niles, was able to turn their initial $100,000 investment into $281,690 during the 10-week competition.

Since the biannual Georgia Stock Market Game began in 1980, an elementary school has won the state title only five times, with four of those state titles belonging to a team from Oliver. The school earned titles in the fall 0f 2007, spring of 2008, spring of 2011 and fall of 2013.

The team will be honored by the Georgia Council on Economic Education May 6, during a luncheon in Atlanta.
