COLLEGE PARK — Ten Babb Middle Family and Consumer Sciences/Family, and Career and Community Leaders of America students attended the Hospitality Education Foundation of Georgia (HEFG) 2013 Hospitality Career Expo Feb. 1 at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park.
“This was an invaluable opportunity for Babb Middle School students,” said Lillian M. Mitchell, Family and Consumer Sciences teacher. “This career expo is mostly attended by juniors and seniors in high school Family and Consumer Sciences classes.”
“Babb students were the only middle schoolers in attendance,” Mitchell added. “As a result, they have a broader understanding of the career options available in the area of family and consumer sciences. This will help them as they consider which career pathway they may choose.”
There were over 2,500 students attending the expo this year. Students participated in a workshop on professionalism that was presented by leadership from the Carlton Ritz Hotel and Resort.
They also attended a career workshop that presented guidance from a panel of industry professionals. These individuals were: Chef R.J. Harvey, executive chef R&D, Morrison Management Specialist; Nile Harris, general manager, Sheraton Atlanta Hotel; Bo Laterveer, vice president, AAA Parking; and Rachael Paul, area director for the southeast Maggiano’s Little Italy.
There were close to 60 exhibitors from leading restaurants, hotel, and professionals in the hospitality and tourism industry.
