Paul Sellers scored 19 points to lead North Clayton to a 75-69 win over Stockbridge on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Region 4-AAAA tournament at Woodland High.
The defending region champions also got 18 points from Devin Lewis and DeAnthony Franklin and Stafan Bradley scored 11 points each in the win.
North Clayton earned a state tournament berth with the win.
Last season, the Eagles advanced to the Class AAAA semifinals after winning the region for the first time in 18 years.
Dutchtown 76, Riverdale 75: The Bulldogs got a big performance from senior Kalvin Hobbs and an upset over Riverdale in the 4-AAAA tournament at Woodland.
Dutchtown (10-13) qualified for the state tournament and will play Eagle’s Landing in the region semifinals at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
Hobbs scored a team-high 21 points for the Bulldogs, while Donovahn Jones added 19 points.
Morrow 43, Newton 38: The Mustangs advance earned a state tournament berth with the Region 2-AAAAAA quarterfinals win.
It is the first time since the 2007-08 season that the Mustangs have reached the state tournament.
Morrow plays Rockdale County on Friday in the region semifinals at 8:30 p.m. at Luella High.
Druid Hills 57, Lovejoy 53 OT: The Wildcats had their seven-game winning streak snapped as they failed to advance the state playoffs for the first time in three seasons.
The Wildcats were up a point with 17 seconds left, but failed to hit the front end of a one-and-one situation.
Jonesboro 59, Woodland 34: Patrick Petty scored 21 points, including hitting on four 3-pointers as the Cardinals cruised to the Region 4-AAAA quarterfinals win.
Dubie Okeke had 10 points, seven rebounds and five block shots as Jonesboro earned a state playoff berth.
The Cardinals will meet defending region champion North Clayton on Friday in the region semifinals. Jonesboro won the two regular season meetings.
