JONESBORO — Five people arrested during last summer's gambling raids in Forest Park were indicted by a Clayton County grand jury this week.

Vijaya Bhaskar Avuri, Dawit M. Tewolde and Admassu Merkeb Ayalew were indicted for commercial gambling, keeping a gambling place and possession of gambling devices in connection with the Marathon on Ga. 54.

Julie Doan and Larry Doan were indicted on three counts of commercial gambling for alleged activities at Sun Coin Laundry on Jonesboro Road.

The Clayton County District Attorney's Office conducted raids at the businesses in July. District Attorney Tracy Graham Lawson said the stores had been under surveillance for months. Winners were given cash, tobacco, alcohol and lottery tickets, all of which is against the law, she said.

In other indictments:

• Jeremy Stephon Green was indicted on seven counts of child molestation, five counts of statutory rape, simple battery and giving a false name to a police officer. Green, 21, of Labrador Lane in Riverdale, is being held in the Clayton County Jail.

Caveario Deanta Reeves, 31, of Tara Road in Jonesboro was indicted for kidnapping, false imprisonment, obstruction of an officer, giving a false name and simple battery. Police said he kidnapped Samantha Duffy Nov. 23.

Reeves is being held in the Clayton County Jail.

All defendants should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
