JONESBORO — Those pesky brake lights.
The faulty ones on a College Park man's vehicle caught the attention of Clayton County police and landed him in jail. Niquintin Deonte Winters, 22, of Highgreen Trail is being held without bond in the Clayton County Jail.
Sgt. Kevin Hughes said officers with the SMASH unit noticed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Flint River Road without working brake lights Thursday about 4:10 p.m.
The Strategic Method Against Street Harm officers initiated a traffic stop and detected a strong odor of suspected marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, said Hughes. Winters was the sole occupant.
An investigation and search of the vehicle turned up suspected methamphetamine and a semi-automatic handgun.
Court records show Winters completed misdemeanor probation in January for a 2011 shoplifting conviction. Days later, he was ticketed for texting while driving and is due in State Court Feb. 28.
Winters was charged Thursday with Violation of Georgia's Controlled Substances Act for possession of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Oh, and defective equipment.
