JONESBORO -- The first meeting of the year of the Clayton County Board of Commission opened Wednesday night to a standing-room only crowd.

The meeting started at 7 p.m., the first for newly-elected Chairman Jeff Turner and Commissioner Shana Rooks. The board recognized former Chairman Eldrin Bell and Clayton County police Officer Michael Hooks, who was injured last month when he was hit by a car while on duty. The audience of about 200 gave Hooks a standing ovation.

Rooks made a motion to name Commissioner Michael Edmondson vice-chairman. The motion passed over objections by commissioners Sonna Singleton and Gail Hambrick.

The just-named Wole Ralph Recreation Center was renamed the South Clayton Recreation Center with the same vote.

The board also voted 3-2, with Singleton and Hambrick dissenting, to abolish the office of county manager and terminate the contract of County Manager Wade Starr.

....So Far; Clayton County is off to a good start. Only two remaining commissioners that shouldn't be on our county board, to make it more righteous & trustworthy.

.....How could I forget about replacing Porter as The Chief of Police in The Clayton County Police Department ?

.....When did the position of Chief become a Lifetime Permanent Position ?

.....Chief of Police is not an elected official, The Chief was appointed by another administration.

....This will be the test, and true grit, for Jeff Turner's devotion : Replace Porter !!!!

I'm not so sure about this one. Bell was using Porter as his puppet so that he could play police chief again. Turner might just do the same thing. Porter is a good puppet.
