JONESBORO — Arnold Elementary students honored Sandy Hook Elementary School by making paper snowflakes in an effort to help heal their scars.
Sandy Hook and its Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) turned their new school into a “winter wonderland” Jan. 3 in order to recover from the shooting massacre that left 20 students and six teachers dead.
Before the break, Arnold Principal Myron Allen said he felt this was an important project to help restore the children’s innocence and bring happiness back into their lives.
Allen sent a letter home with all students Dec. 21 asking for students and their families to open their hearts and participate.
“In an effort to support the families in Newtown, Conn., Arnold would like to support a cause that is currently taking place for Sandy Hook Elementary School,” the letter states.
“As a family, we are asking that you and the students assist us by making homemade paper snowflakes. The plan is to send one giant care package of snowflakes to them upon our return.”
Allen was unavailable for comment Tuesday, but school district officials told the Clayton News Daily he didn’t want publicity for his efforts.
