A full homecoming for CSU alums

University resurrecting parade on Jonesboro Road

— Nothing says welcome home like fire, singing, dancing and people running en masse.

Clayton State University has announced a full schedule of events for its Homecoming celebration in early February. Among the activities is a “Clayton State Idol” contest Feb. 4, the Annual Student Choice Awards Feb. 5, a Hump Day Party and a faculty versus students basketball game Feb. 6, a Homecoming Step Show Feb. 7 and a pep rally and bonfire Feb. 8.

And oh yeah, there’s also an alumni breakfast, a 5K “Run Clayton State” Run/Walk, tailgating and Homecoming festival and basketball doubleheader scheduled for Feb. 9.

Those are all annual Homecoming traditions at Clayton State but there will be one thing different about this year’s parade: The university will have its first Homecoming parade in seven years in Morrow Feb. 9 at 11 a.m.

“This year’s parade will be a first, as the parade will not be held on campus, but on Jonesboro Road in Morrow,” university spokesman John Shiffert said in a written statement.

Check-in for the 9 a.m. race will begin at 7:45 a.m. in front of the Harry S. Downs Center for Continuing Education. The alumni breakfast will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the Downs Center.

The tailgating and Homecoming festival will last from 2 p.m. until 3: 30 p.m. in front of Clayton State’s Student Activities Center.

The women’s and men’s basketball games against Montevallo will then be played at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.

The Clayton State Alumni Association is also set to hold its Alumni Social at Pin Strikes Entertainment Center, located at 3478 Mount Zion Road, in Stockbridge at 8 p.m. Feb. 9.
