Police identify bodies in apparent murder-suicide

MORROW — Clayton County police have released the names of a man and woman found dead Friday morning in an apparent murder-suicide.

Officer Phong Nguyen said Rene Vasquez, 38, was found in the garage of the home on Victoria Drive in unincorporated Morrow. Mayra Martines, 45, was found in an upstairs bedroom, he said. Both lived at the home.

"It is being investigated as a murder-suicide," said Nguyen.

Nguyen said someone called 911 about 7:10 a.m. Friday to report a person down at a home in the 6700 block of Victoria Drive. When officers arrived, they found a dead man in the garage. Officers checked the interior of the home for other injured people and found a dead woman inside an upstairs bedroom, said Nguyen.

It was the second reported suicide for Clayton County in three days. Nguyen said a woman found dead in a shed behind the house she vacated in August committed suicide.

Susan Stover was found by a passer-by interested in buying items strewn across the vacant home's yard, said Nguyen. Getting no answer, he wandered around the property and opened the shed door, which is in full view of Twin Oaks Drive. Nguyen said he saw the woman's body and called 911.

Neighbors said Stover and relatives lived in the house for years. One remembered that a brother of Stover's hanged himself in the garage of the same house several years ago.

Police said the shed appeared to be lived in and contained a chair, makeshift bed and household items.

Nguyen said Monday that officials found a suicide note related to Stover's death.
