LOVEJOY — Two Clayton County schools were on lockdown for two hours Tuesday afternoon after a state inmate walked away from a work detail at Lovejoy Regional Park.
Georgia Department of Corrections spokeswoman Gwendolyn Hogan said Steven Gregory Bone, 50, left the outside detail at 12:12 p.m. Hogan said he was recaptured about 2:05 p.m.
According to records, Bone was convicted in 2004 and has been serving a 20-year sentence for elder abuse and terroristic threats and acts on 2002 and 2001 Cobb County cases. He was an inmate at Clayton County Correctional Institute with a maximum possible release date of December 2022.
Lovejoy police Sgt. Michael Gaddis said one of his officers helped in the search, as did deputies with the Clayton County Sheriff's Office.
Clayton County Schools spokesman David Waller said two schools were on lockdown for two hours while the search continued.
"Lovejoy middle and high schools went on lockdown around noon today at the request of local law enforcement officials," he said. "The lockdown was lifted at 2 p.m. after it was determined that there was no threat to either of these two schools."
