MORROW — Clayton County’s last holdout against Sunday alcohol sales may soon give way.
Much of Clayton County has already approved the sale of beer and wine on Sundays in a series of referendums held over the last 14 months.
The only “dry” island left in the county is Morrow, where alcohol can be sold on any day of the week except Sundays.
However, that is close to changing because the Morrow City Council is expected to vote Feb. 12 on whether the city should hold a referendum on the issue in November. A first reading on the proposed ordinance was done Tuesday night. The council must conduct two readings of the proposal before a vote can be taken.
If the council approves holding the referendum, Morrow residents will cast ballots Sunday alcohol sales during the Nov. 5 municipal election.
If the sales are approved by voters, stores will be allowed to sell beer and wine from 12:30 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. on Sundays.
