ATLANTA — If a single snowflake falls in Atlanta, Georgia will be ready.
If a tornado rips through Clayton County, Georgia will be ready.
If the Flint River floods the countryside, Georgia will be ready.
Gov. Nathan Deal called on Georgia residents Tuesday to prepare for an attack from Mother Nature by issuing a proclamation declaring Feb. 4-8 as Severe Weather Awareness Week.
“It is vital that effective public education programs concerning severe weather systems and preparedness procedures continue for the benefits of all Georgians,” said Deal in the proclamation.
Georgia Emergency Management Agency is highlighting different types of severe weather during each day of the special week.
GEMA’s daily themes include:
• Feb. 4: Family Preparedness Day
• Feb. 5: Thunderstorm Safety Day
• Feb. 6: Tornado Safety Day
• Feb. 7: Lightning Safety Day
• Feb. 8: Flood Safety Day
Officials will conduct a statewide drill Feb. 6 to tie into that day’s tornado safety theme. GEMA also lists items families need for emergency preparedness kits on the agency’s Ready Georgia website, www.ready.ga.gov/.
