JONESBORO Residents who want to run for a seat on the Jonesboro City Council can put the qualifying period on their calendars.
The city announced Monday that its nonpartisan election qualifying period will last Aug. 26 through Aug. 30, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Qualifying will be held at Jonesboro City Hall, which is located at 124 North Ave.
Councilmen Pat Sebo, Joe Compton and Clarence Mann are up for re-election this year in the Nov. 5 Municipal Election. The cost to qualify as a candidate for a council seat is $252, and the council members are chosen at large.
If a prospective candidate misses the qualifying period, the deadline to sign up as a write-in candidate is Sept. 3. The voter registration deadline will be a month later, on Oct. 7.
