Drawing a line to your heart

Arts Clayton offering children’s illustration classes

— Pablo Picasso was known for his more abstract paintings but he once compared himself to the more conventional Renaissance master painter Raphael.

But, a child artist? That wasn’t as easy a comparison to make for the Spanish artist.

He reportedly once said, “As a child, I drew like Raphael, but it has taken me a lifetime to draw like a child,” according to several artist quotations websites.

Arts Clayton will offer Clayton County children an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Raphael and Picasso for Valentine’s Day.

The Jonesboro-based arts organization will offer “Creative Station Workshops” on Feb. 15 and Feb. 16 to teach preschool to middle school-aged children the basics of drawing.

The workshops are being offered as a chance to “draw your heart out” by Arts Clayton officials.

Two workshops will be offered each day at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The cost to participate in a workshop is $5 per person and reservations are required. The workshops will be offered at the Arts Clayton Gallery, located at 136 South Main St., in Jonesboro.

Workshop reservations can be set up by calling the gallery at 770-473-5826.
