Rolland Mitchell Smith

Rolland Mitchell Smith, 46, of Jonesboro, Ga., died Saturday afternoon, July 6, 2013, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Born in Savannah, Ga., and baptized at Bull Street Baptist Church, he was a son of Mary Quarles Smith Bruce and the late John Rolland Smith. Mitchell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. He was a land surveyor for Bostwick, Duke, Harper & Worthy Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Christina Madden Smith of Jonesboro; his mother and stepfather, Mary Quarles Smith Bruce and Jack L. Bruce of Jonesboro; a brother, Brian McNeill Smith and his wife, Beth, of Garner, N.C.; three step-sisters, Teresa Lites and her husband, Dan, of Westin, W.V., Cheryl Street of East Point, Ga., and Anita Dalton of Stockbridge, Ga.; one niece, Amanda Smith; two nephews, Ethan and Austin Smith, eight step-nieces and step-nephews, and several loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mitchell was known for caring for and sharing with others. He continues to give to others as an organ, tissue and bone donor.

The family will receive friends from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of the First Baptist Church, 128 College St., Jonesboro.

The funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of the First Baptist Church, Jonesboro, conducted by the Rev. Hinton H. Harris, music by Hugh Waddy. The interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park East, 1600 Wheaton St., Savannah.
