Morrow residents: ‘No comment’ on tax increase

— Residents of Morrow had an opportunity Monday to make their voices heard on the city’s proposed 2-mill tax increase, but they didn’t take advantage of it.

The city council held a public hearing on the millage rate increase, which would result in property owners being taxed at a rate of 9.5-mills, but no one showed to speak. City officials have said their only choices to balance the city’s budget were to raise taxes or lay off employees. Most of Morrow’s employees work for the city’s police and fire departments.

The council was set to give residents a second chance to speak out during a hearing held as part of its business meeting Tuesday. The meeting took place after Clayton News Daily’s printing deadline.
