JONESBORO — The new student registration push is on for Clayton County Public Schools.
While students can register anytime during the district’s business hours, officials have planned days specifically for new pupils to enroll before the school year begins. That window is Aug. 1-9.
Spokesman David Waller said the district averages about 3,000 new students who transfer in each year, though the enrollment has remained stable due to transiency. The district expects to enroll about 52,000 students this year.
“It helps everyone to register as soon as possible so that we can be ready,” he said. “It helps us make sure everyone can get into the classes they want. It also helps them to be sure that they get the classes that they want.”
General registration is Aug. 1-2 and Aug. 5-9. The times are from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the student’s designated school.
Saturday registration is Aug. 3 and Aug. 10, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., at specific locations.
Aug. 3, elementary school students can register at Tara Elementary School, 937 Mt. Zion Road in Morrow, while middle and high school students can register at Jonesboro High School, 7728 Mt. Zion Blvd. in Jonesboro.
Aug. 10, middle and high school students can register at Mt. Zion High School, 2535 Mt. Zion Parkway in Jonesboro. An elementary school site was not announced by press time.
Registration is available at the district’s International Center, for parents and guardians with limited English speaking skills. It is weekdays, July 29 through Aug. 9, from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., at the International Center, 2260 Old Rex-Morrow Road in Morrow.
