People First of Henry County held a Walk-A-Thon over the weekend to benefit families in Henry, Clayton and surrounding counties and they were joined by Star, the Atlanta Dream mascot. (Special Photo)
McDONOUGH — The Fifth Annual People First of Henry County Walk-A-Thon was held Saturday, July 20, in McDonough and more than $14,000 in donations poured in to benefit the programs for people with disabilities.
People First serves families in Henry, Clayton and surrounding counties.
The 1.2 mile walk around the picturesque McDonough Square was enjoyed by more than 80 walkers.
“Star,” the Atlanta Dream mascot, was the hit of the party, according to participants.
Organizers said they were exceptionally pleased with raising more than $14,000.
People First of Henry County is a nonprofit organization that promotes fairness and equality for people with disabilities. The organization offers free socials year round to special needs families.
In a 13-year period, People First has reached more than 500 families within the community.
Organizers thanked Ricky Craig and the entire Craig Family for sponsoring fundraising events, adding that the family, “steps out to make a difference in our community.”
