FOREST PARK — Four Clayton County firefighters were treated at Atlanta Medical Center for injuries sustained in a vehicle accident Tuesday night, said officials.

Deputy Chief Jacque Feilke said the four were taken to Atlanta Medical Center for injuries ranging from minor to serious. The firefighters were on Engine 9 when it collided with a tractor-trailer truck at Old Dixie Road and Central Avenue in Forest Park about 6:30 p.m., said Capt. Walter Barber.

Barber said one was transported by helicopter and three were taken by ambulance.

Feilke said about 10 p.m. Tuesday that one firefighter had been released and two more were in the process of being released. The fourth was kept overnight for observation but didn't suffer broken bones, she said.

Barber said the accident is under investigation. The names of the injured were not immediately released.

Fire Chief Jeff Hood and Assistant Chief Landry Merkison were attending a Clayton County Board of Commission meeting when they got the call about the crash and immediately left.

The accident is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.
