Humane Society to hold its spring yard sale

— It appears Mother Nature is finally ready to cooperate with the Clayton County Humane Society.

The animal adoption group had to postpone its spring yard sale twice last month because of rain. That put a hamper on its fundraising efforts because the annual sale is one of the group’s three largest fundraisers, in addition to last weekend’s quilt sale and a fall yard sale.

But as of Wednesday, the Weather Channel’s weekend weather forecast called for a 20 percent chance of rain Saturday. That means the Humane Society has a good shot at holding a precipitation-free yard sale.

This weekend’s list of events includes:

The Brookdale Dine and Dance Club will meet at 6 p.m. at the Jim Huie Recreation Center, 9045 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro. The group is for residents over 55 and visitors are asked to bring a dish for a potluck dinner held at the beginning of the meeting. After dinner, at about 6:45 p.m., attendees will begin dancing. Admission is $5 for the dancing.

The Treasures for Paws Mega Yard Sale fundraiser for Clayton County Humane Society will be held from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Jonesboro High School, 7728 Mt. Zion Blvd.

Youth Beekeeper’s School will be held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the William H. Reynolds Memorial Nature Preserve, 5665 Reynolds Road in Morrow. The program is for children ages 9-14, who will learn why honeybees are important, what products are made from bees and what tools are used in beekeeping. It will be taught by representatives of Tara Beekeepers. The event is free to attend.

The film “Here Comes the Boom” will be shown at 9 p.m. at Flat Shoals Park, 1915 Flat Shoals Road in Riverdale. It is free to attend and the viewing is part of Clayton County Parks and Recreation’s “Movie Under Stars” series.
