Clayton students inducted into honor society

SCHOOL NOTEBOOK 6-7-13

A handful of Clayton County residents were initiated recently into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at Clark Atlanta University. They are Raven Williams of Riverdale, Ondra Walker of Forest Park, and Alexis Hayes and Thelma Washington, both of Jonesboro.

Lovejoy High pupil earns Comcast scholarship

Tiana Mason of Hampton was recently named a Comcast Leader and Achiever. She was chosen as a one-time $1,000 college scholarship recipient in the annual Leaders and Achievers 2013 Scholarship Program. She plans to attend Brenau University in the fall.

Andy Mack is Comcast’s Big South Region vice president of Government and Community Affairs.

“This student has proven to be a leader in both the classroom and the community through their ongoing commitment to service and academic excellence,” said Mack. “Comcast wants to not only award these young leaders, but also further encourage them to cultivate their skills, talents and work ethic with higher education to achieve their full potential.”

Military notes

Air Force Airman Asia Hodnett graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas. Hodnett is the daughter of Cindy Hodnett of Riverdale and Larry Hodnett of Rex. She is a 2012 graduate of North Clayton High School.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Aum Patel has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas. Patel, the son of Smita Patel of Morrow and nephew of Daksha Patel of Jonesboro, earned an associate degree in 2011 from Gwinnett Technical College in Lawrenceville.
