Officer shot, suspect believed killed

By Kathy Jefcoats

RIVERDALE — A Clayton County police officer has been shot and the suspect is believed to be dead, said officials late Friday night.

Officer Phong Nguyen had bare details about 11:30 p.m. but said the officer who was shot is "OK." He said his understanding of the situation is that the shooter is dead.

Nguyen was working traffic about a mile from the scene, reported to be at Upper Riverdale Road and Tara Boulevard. He had no information on what led to the confrontation. Neither the officer nor the suspect was identified.

Clayton News Daily reached out to department spokesman Sgt. Kevin Hughes for more information and is awaiting a response. Motorists are urged to avoid the area as officers work the scene.

Check back for details.

....Another shoot out, in our peaceful county. My Grandsons came to visit us, and just happen to see the aftermath of this shooting.....before the dead guy was covered up in the street. They came in telling us about it, and I only said : There as been some changes made in our county, since you last been here....this is one of these changes.
