JONESBORO — A burglary suspect was shot and killed Saturday night after a confrontation with a homeowner, said police.
Two other suspects apparently got away.
Sgt. Kevin Hughes said residents of the home in the 9000 block of Sterling Ridge Lane in Jonesboro returned home about 10:30 p.m. to find their front door open. Hughes said the armed homeowner went inside and was confronted by three males taking items from the house.
"During this confrontation, there were gunshots fired and the three males ran out of the house using an open window," said Hughes.
When police arrived, officers discovered a male on the ground in a neighboring front yard. He was unresponsive, said Hughes.
"Emergency units arrived and advised the male was deceased," he said.
The Georgia Bureau of investigation Medical Examiner said the male suffered a single gunshot wound to his upper torso. Police found a handgun outside the window where the males ran from during the incident, said Hughes.
The Clayton County Police Major Felony Unit is still investigating the incident, he said.
