— A witch threatened a lion, a tin man and a scarecrow in Jonesboro Thursday but a group of munchkins saved the day by screaming and waving their arms.

It was a scene from a production of “The Wizard of Oz” put on by Peachtree City-based A Company of Friends for the Jonesboro Library Branch. About 180 children from 10 day care groups and summer camps attended the performance, which is part of the library’s summer programming for kids.

“We’ve performed for a lot of children’s groups this summer, but you guys were by far the best group yet,” said Tammy Barton, the group’s artistic director who also played the “Evil Witch.”
