JONESBORO It might sound like a soap opera plot at first glance but something is returning from the dead in Jonesboro.
No, it’s not a person experiencing some miracle resurrection.
It’s the city’s Summer Concert Series which was a victim of the budget axe in late 2010.
Jonesboro is aiming to revive the series this year with $4,000 set aside for the concerts in the city budget. It will be the first time in three years that the series has been held.
Councilman Randy Segner is overseeing planning for the series and he told his colleagues Monday that he is still gathering input on what to do with the concerts. It will likely begin after the city hosts a separate installment in the Atlanta Jazz Festival’s “31 Days of Jonesboro” concert series May 31.
“I’m looking for some really good input and also it will depend on the jazz concert as to what dates we can select,” Segner said.
Segner spearheaded an effort to see if there was still an interest in the series last summer with a concert performed by a Beatles tribute band.
