JONESBORO — A Riverdale man charged in the Jan. 25 shooting death of a cab driver has been returned from Rhode Island to the Clayton County Jail.
Julius Ryan Thomas, 20, is charged with murder, false statements and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. He is being held without bond in the Clayton County Jail. Police charged him last month in the shooting death of Rosendo Casarrubias. Casarrubias was found dead from a gunshot to his head Jan. 25 inside his cab parked in the 200 block of Brookview Drive in Riverdale.
Clayton County police also arrested Desmond Brandon Nixon, 22, of Riverdale and charged him with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and first offender probationer, false statements and robbery. Police picked up Nixon Feb. 2 in connection with an alleged sexual assault.
Through the investigation, police were able to connect Nixon to the shooting. Nixon is also being held for rape, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit a crime and probation violation. He made his first appearance last month where he was denied bond. He is due to return to Magistrate Court March 8 for bond reconsideration.
