Winners of Hear Our Voices being tabulated

JONEOSBORO — Some 45 students participated in the speaking portion of the Hear Our Voices competition Feb. 28 at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center.

The annual contest is sponsored by the Clayton County Public Schools language arts department.

Department coordinator Dr. Ebony Thomas said the event celebrates young learners and their talent and creativity.

“Each year, the Hear Our Voices literary competition offers our students in grades kindergarten all the way to our seniors the opportunity to share their personal stories, their wit and sense of humor, their feelings about their family — friends, their inspiration and their adventures,” said Thomas.

She said the event enables students to enhance their written and speaking skills and develop the ability to formulate original thoughts around a given theme or topic like this year’s “How Can One Person (or You) Change the World?” topic.

“These are all important skills for school and careers,” she said. “They are being prepared to meet the communicative demands of life when they are constructing their entries for the Hear Our Voices contest.”

Thomas said a committee is tallying scores from the event and will select winners within the next two weeks.
