JONESBORO — A woman charged with setting her sofa on fire made her first appearance in Clayton County Magistrate Court Thursday.
Ashley Nicole Harrell, 25, of College Park told Chief Magistrate Judge Daphne Walker she has mental health issues.
“I was in Grady [Memorial Hospital] for a week and I’m on medication,” said Harrell. “They came and got me on this charge from the hospital.”
Harrell is charged with arson in the first degree. She told Walker she was having a schizophrenic episode and that the apartment complex management is finding her another unit to move into.
“They are fine with what happened,” said Harrell.
Walker set a $10,000 bond with a special condition — she not return to the complex.
“I’m not going to let you return to the apartment complex as part of your bond,” said Walker.
Harrell said she thinks she can get someone to post the bond for her release. Until then, she is being held in the Clayton County Jail. Her next court appearance has been set for March 21.
