CLAYTON LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: March 16, 2013

I am writing this letter to state I was elated to see your new feature in the Clayton News Daily entitled “Voice Of The People” that premiered in the Wednesday, March 13, 2013, edition of the newspaper, where the people who speak during public comment at government meetings will get their voices heard in the newspaper.

The citizens who truly, sincerely, and wholeheartedly care about Clayton County and go before our elected officials in public comment in governmental meetings in our attempts to point out where they are doing right by us and where they are doing wrong by us and how they can make it right as we hold them accountable, responsible, and answerable for their actions and the decisions that they make on behalf of us, desperately need the help, support, and strong backing of the Clayton News Daily.

As a citizen who regularly attends the Clayton County Board Of Commissioners weekly meetings and who goes on public comment to voice my concerns on the problems in this county that are of great importance to me and how the commission body can go about in solving them, I am met a lot of the times with great indifference and a general unconcern for the problems and issues that I have brought before them to address and solve.

Although I am listened to and given professional respect, no response, feedback, or follow-up is given to me. The emails that I send as follow-up to my topic of concern that I presented aren’t ever responded to or addressed.

I feel as some of the other citizens do, that we do not have a true voice with our elected officials because once they get our votes and get into their elected positions of office, many of them immediately change from being accessible, open, friendly, communicative, and easy to reach when they wanted and desired our votes, to an elected official who only wants to hear the good and does not care, nor wants to hear or address the not so good things happening in Clayton County that they have the power, authority, and command to address and solve.

As a very strong supporter of the rights of citizens against the mistreatment, disrespect, disdain, and utter disregard that many of the elected officials show against the citizens that they do not like because they expose the problems in this county, the Clayton News Daily has been a “godsend” in this county.

Your Our Point editorials articles such as the one entitled “ Citizens Can Seize Power Through Commenting” written on Friday, March 8, and the one entitled “Sunshine Week” written on Wednesday, March 13, continue to empower, encourage, and embolden citizens to take an even more active role in shaping our county government into one that is truly responsive to our best interests and the best interests of the county as a whole.

It is my sincere hope that the Clayton News Daily will not only continue this new feature Voice Of The People, but that you will continue to expand and grow this feature because as I stated earlier, we desperately need this help, strong support, and backing as we try our best to truly make Clayton County a safe, secure, clean, desirable, appealing, attractive, presentable, and pleasurable place to live, work, play, and enjoy.

Thank you again for the work that you do in your strong support of the rights of citizens in Clayton County.

Thank you for your strong, supportive, hard-hitting, direct, blunt, and candid editorials that expose the mistreatment, disrespect, and disdain that some of Clayton County’s elected officials have shown against many of the citizens in this county.

Thank you for your new feature, Voice Of The People.

Thank you for putting actions behind the words in the first five sentences of the editorial article that was written on Friday, July 20, 2012, entitled, “This Is Your Newspaper,” where you wrote, “The Clayton News Daily is your newspaper. A newspaper truly belongs to its community. If it doesn’t, it should. No, you don’t have to buy the ink and rolls of newsprint, but in all the ways that matter most, the paper belongs to you. A community newspaper should be, must be, all about community.”

Clayton News Daily is a newspaper that I am truly proud of and one that I can truly say, that it is my newspaper.

......(( "once they get our votes and get into their elected positions of office"))

.....They have what they wanted from the voters; Next comes the ignore stage.

....I agree about The Clayton News Daily taking a firm stand with the citizens of our county. This is one of my favorites :
