SAN ANTONIO - Despite a 20-point effort from All-American guard Drameka Griggs, the top-ranked Clayton State Lakers fell 81-68 to Augustana (S.D.) on Tuesday afternoon in the NCAA Div. II quarterfinals in San Antonio, Texas.
The Lakers battled from a 24-point deficit midway through the second half, but came up short in the comeback attempt as they fell to 32-1 on the season. Augustana advances to Wednesday's semifinals where they will play the Dowling-Colorado Mesa winner at 7 p.m.
Late in the second half, the Lakers cut the lead to 71-61 with 2:41 remaining after a Bena Hanyard hit a 3-pointer to help the team cap a 12-0 run at the Bill Greehey Arena on the St. Mary's University campus. Shay Jackson finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers, who were trying to win their second national championship in three years.
