PREP ROUNDUP: Baseball state playoff results

Dutchtown 3-7, Cairo 0-0

The Bulldogs got dominant outings from pitchers Riley Presnell and Kahlil Parks to sweep Cairo in the first round of the Class AAAA tournament.

The wins set a single-season school record for Dutchtown, which won a state tournament series for the first time ever.

Presnell led Dutchtown (17-11) in Game 1 with a complete-game, one-hit performance with 10 strikeouts. Parks followed with a complete-game, two-hit performance.

Terrell Frazier, a freshman, gave Parks all the support he needed with a grand slam.

Dutchtown advances to play at Veterans, who swept Burke County, on Wednesday.

Luella 3-6, Douglas County 2-0

Another year, another first-round playoff series win for the Lions.

Luella (18-7) held on to win Game 1 behind a complete game effort by starting pitcher John Goodman. The Lions had a 2-0 lead erased when Douglas County hit a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning.

But Luella scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning to take back the lead for good.

Damion Fondren made sure the Lions never trailed in Game 2. He pitched six shutout innings.

Luella advances to play the winner of Colquitt County-Harrison series on Wednesday.

Locust Grove 5-9, Westover 4-4

The Wildcats got things started dramatically then ended it comfortably to win their first playoff series in school history.

Down 4-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 1, Josh Fellows hit a bases-loaded double to tie the game then scored the walk-off run a batter later on a single by Tyler Sellers.

Locust Grove (17-9) cruised in the decisive Game 2 behind a strong outing from Drew Young.

The Wildcats will play the winner of Wayne County-Mary Persons series on Wednesday.
