After Friday’s qualifying at Memorial Stadium in Jefferson, there are 11 runners in 15 events and three relays that will make it back for Saturday’s finals.

The running events are schedule to start at 11:50 a.m. after opening ceremonies.

There are two runners and a relay team that qualified with the top times in their events. Jonesboro senior Taurean Ferguson was the top qualifier in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles. This will likely be Ferguson final competitive track meet after signing a football scholarship with Vanderbilt in February.

The Nashville school doesn’t field a men’s track program.

Nick Dawson of Eagle’s Landing Christian was the top qualifier in the 200 event in the Class A private school championship.

With five opportunities to score, ELCA is in a battle for second place in the private school championship. Athens Christian appears to have first place locked up with 72 points going into Saturday’s running finals.

ELCA has 28 points for second place, but Athens Academy has 24 points for third and Landmark Christian has 23.5 points for fourth place. Also in contention is North Cobb Christian (22 points) and Darlington (19.5).

Senior Jevius Terry has qualified in both the 100 and 200 events.

The Stockbridge 400 relay team had the top qualifying team in Class AAAA. The foursome of Robert Beechum, Clifford Lowe, Nigel Hughes, and Kendarius Webster had a time of 42.41 seconds. Beechum also qualified in the 400 while Webster will run in the 100 event in the championships.

Marquett Simmons of Mount Zion also qualified in two running events. He will compete in both the 100 and 200 in the Class AAAAA finals.
