Cramer Edward “Eddie” Upchurch

Cramer Edward “Eddie” Upchurch, 96, of Riverdale, Ga., passed away Friday, May 3, 2013, after a short illness.

He was predeceased by his parents, Adell and Samuel Adolphus (Dolly) Upchurch; brothers George Hershal Upchurch, Olin Upchurch, James Francis Upchurch, Sidney Arthur Upchurch, John William (Willie) Upchurch, Harold O’Dell Upchurch and Henry Gurley Upchurch; sister Lillie Mae Upchurch and his son, Dennis Edward Upchurch.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dorothy White Wallace Upchurch; his sister, Barbara (Frank) Parker of Douglasville, Ga.; his brother, Billy (Clydine) Upchurch of Snellville, Ga.; his sons, Michael Gary (Beverley) Upchurch of Alabaster, Ala., Richard (Suzanne) Wallace of Conyers, Ga., David W. (Jaylene) Wallace of Denver, Colo., and Timothy B. (Lynn) Wallace of Riverdale, Ga. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kimberly Upchurch Holder (Randy), Cynthia Upchurch Brimm (Nikki), Denny Upchurch Dunn, Jamie Wallace, Phillip Wallace, William Wallace and Brian Wallace; his great-grandchildren, Jacob Holder, Sean Holder, Chloe Holder, Bella Brimm, Bly Brimm and Mia Brimm, and numerous cousins.

He attended school in Loganville until his enlistment in the Marine Corps in 1942. Cramer served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a platoon leader and company gunnery sergeant in the Third Truck Co. and was a staff sergeant in the Marine Corps Reserves, where he was named “Outstanding Enlisted Marine Reservist.” He retired from MARTA Transit System after 33 years of faithful service.

Cramer was a member of the Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Clayton County. He previously was a member of Riverdale Presbyterian Church where he was a dedicated usher and received a Certificate of Appreciation from Dr. Steve Austin for all of the work he did for the Church.

The family will receive friends at the Tara Garden Chapel, 681 North Ave., Jonesboro, Tuesday, May 7, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Spencer R. Frye, will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 8. Interment will be in College Park Cemetery, 735 Virginia Avenue.
