MORROW — A pedestrian killed trying to cross I-75 early Saturday morning has been identified as a Missouri man, said Clayton County police.

Sgt. Kevin Hughes said John Scott Lewis, 22, of Missouri was hit by vehicles traveling north on I-75 near the Mount Zion Boulevard exit about 3:40 a.m. Two drivers stopped after hitting him, Hughes said.

Witnesses told police Lewis was already in the middle of the interstate when he was hit by the two motorists who stopped.

Hughes said police are investigating why Lewis was crossing the interstate. He said the interstate is not meant to be traveled by pedestrians.

"The Clayton County police does not promote the use of the interstate as a means of pedestrian travel," said Hughes. "Please contact the police if you ever see anyone walking on the interstate or even if you are stranded on the interstate to get the proper safe assistance."
