MORROW While residents may be planning to spend their Memorial Day weekend relaxing or holding cookouts, the Clayton County Water Authority is offering them another option.
The authority put out a reminder this week that its reservoirs and the Newman Wetlands Center will be open this weekend. The county’s three reservoirs will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. in case any avid anglers want to spend the three-day weekend doing some fishing.
“The Clayton County Water Authority’s reservoir areas and Newman Wetlands Center are a great option for families looking for close, inexpensive outdoor fun for the Memorial Day weekend,” said spokeswoman Suzanne Brown in a written statement.
Admission fee of $5 per vehicle for Clayton County residents and $10 for non residents. The Blalock and Shamrock reservoirs are at 2610 Shamrock Road in Jonesboro and the J.W. Smith Reservoir is at 143 Northbridge Road near Hampton.
And there is always the Newman Wetlands Center — which has a picnic area, a wetlands trail and an interpretive center — for anyone who isn’t that into dealing with fish. The center is located at 2755 Freeman Road near Lovejoy and will be open 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. The interpretive center is expected to be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Memorial Day, according to an announcement from the water authority.
Visitors to the wetlands are not allowed to use grills or start any open fires, according to the water authority’s website.
